About Your Card - Library Card Policies and Fees


Borrowing Limits

Adults and Teens (12 years old and up)

You may borrow up to 50 items. Once this limit of 50 is reached, no further items may be borrowed until some or all of these items are returned. In addition, the following limits on material types apply:

You may borrow up to 20 items. Once this limit of 20 is reached, no further items may be borrowed until some or all of these items are returned. In addition, children may not borrow material if they have an overdue item until that overdue item is returned.

Fees

Lost or Destroyed Materials

The cost for lost or destroyed materials is the replacement cost of the item, as listed in the catalog. If the cost is not listed in the catalog, charges will be assessed as follows:

Rebinding $2.00
Plastic Covers for Books $2.00
Plastic Boxes $2.00
DVD Plastic Covers/Security Cases $2.00

When you owe a total of $5.00 or more in fees, your borrowing privileges will be restricted. You will not be able to check out items, place holds, use the online or telephone renewal systems, or request interlibrary loan materials. You may pay for fees in person at any neighborhood library, or online using a credit card. Once your balance is below $5.00, your full borrowing privileges will be restored.

Overdue Notices - The Library sends out notices when an item is overdue. Once an item becomes overdue you can no longer renew the item. Please return your material so that other customers may borrow them.

Replacement Cards

The replacement fee is $1.00 per lost card for adult applicants (13 and up).

The replacement fee is $1.00 for teen and children applicants when a third library card is issued within a three-year period.


Loan Periods

Most items available for loan may be checked out for a three-week period. Videos and some books are checked out for seven days.

All items may be returned to any Free Library agency except for special loans and Interlibrary Loans. They should be returned to the department or agency from which they were checked out.


Digital Loan Periods

Service Description
Overdrive You can checkout 6 items at a time and have 6 items on hold at once. You set your own loan period from 7 to 21 days.

Lost Cards

You are responsible for all items borrowed on your library card. Please report a lost, missing, or stolen card to your library immediately.


Personal Identification Number (PIN)

A PIN is needed to login to many of the features of the Free Library web site. With your library card number and PIN, you can access:

  • Electronic Resources - downloadable ebooks and audiobooks, streaming music, and hundreds of great databases
  • Your library card account - renew your books, request books to be held for you
  • Live online homework help
  • Connect to the wifi in the library
