The Reader Development Program gives books to adult education agencies in Philadelphia. Please call us at 215.686.5346 to find out if your agency is eligible to receive books. The guidelines below are designed for use by teachers and tutors who work in agencies that are eligible for RDP books.
You can order 10 copies of any one title at one time.
You can re-order titles.
You can order 2 books per student per year. This is calculated for agencies. For example, if your agency has 100 students the teachers at that agency can get a maximum of 300 books from RDP.
Please be advised that the demand for RDP books is always greater than our supply. This means two things: first, books will go out of stock during the year. In fact, some books will go out of stock two or three times during the year. Second, we do not have enough books to provide the same one to every student in your class.
If a book is out of stock you must re-order it. We do not back order.
You can mail, fax or call in orders. Please limit your phone orders to 3 titles.
If you mail or fax in an order, please write the full title of the books you want. For example, if you just write GED books, we won’t know whether to send you the Steck-Vaughn or the Contemporary book.
We can send books to your nearest branch library. The librarians there will call you so that you’ll know to go pick up the books. The branch library will hold books for 2 weeks and then send them back to RDP if you don’t pick them up.
You can also pick up books in the RDP office at the Central Library, 1901 Vine Street.
Your students can get 2 books per year with their library cards.
Independent tutors not affiliated with a nonprofit or literacy agency providing adult education services may receive 2 books per year, the same as individual users
